Tapered roller bearing is widely used in automobiles, rolling mills, mining, metallurgy, plastic machinery, reducers and other industries. Tapered roller bearing mainly support radial loads, can also undertake combined loads. Bearings' loading capacity depends on the raceway angle of the outer ring. The larger the angle, the greater the load carrying capacity.
Tapered roller bearings are separable, can be devided into several types: single row, double row and four row tapered roller bearings according to the number of rows of rolling elements. The clearance of single-row tapered roller bearing needs to be adjusted by the user during installation, while the double-row and four-row tapered roller bearing clearance has been set at the time of shipment, and users don't need to adjust.
Tapered rollers are arranged on the raceway, and the projection lines of all roller surfaces converge at the same point on the bearing axis. This design makes tapered roller bearings particularly suitable for bearing combined (radial and axial) loads. The axial load capacity of the bearing is mostly determined by the contact angle α; the larger the angle α, the higher the axial load capacity.
Since tapered roller bearings are precision components, attentions should be paid in applciation. No matter how good the bearings are, if not used properly, the expected high performance will not be achieved.
(1) Keep the tapered roller bearing and its surroundings clean.
Even small dust that is invisible to the eyes can have a bad effect on the bearings. Therefore, keep the operation area clean so that the dust does not intrude into the bearing.
(2) Apply with care.
Avoid strong impact loads on the bearing, which will produce scratches and indentations, in severe cases, cracks and breaks occur, so care must be taken during installation and application.
(3) Use appropriate tools for install and remove.
(4) Pay attention to the corrosion of tapered roller bearings. The sweat on the hand can cause rust of bearing, so it is best to wear gloves during operation.
Use auditory to identify irregular movements of tapered roller bearing is a common method. For example, experienced operator often use an electronic stethoscope to detect abnormal noise in a part. If the bearing is in good operating condition, it will emit a low and even sound. If it is sharp or other irregular sound, it usually indicates that the bearing is in poor working condition.
