Abnormal sound during the operation of cross tapered roller bearings is usually caused by various factors. It's difficult to confirm the reason because different types of abnormal sounds are usually made simultaneously. So BRS summarizes the following main reasons that may cause the noise of crossed tapered roller bearings based on years of production experience.
Scratches or serious defects in the inner and outer raceways of the bearings will cause periodic vibration. Or if the scratches and other defects are on the surface of rolling elements, there will be non-periodic vibration, which leads to the abnormal sound.
Periodic or non-periodic vibration caused by the contaminants that in the raceway or attached to the rolling elements. For example, the residual magnetic adsorption iron powder on the raceway or rolling body. Or the dust entering the bearing raceway. So crossed tapered roller bearings must be assembled in a highly clean space, and must do demagnetization before delivery.
Abnormal sound will arise when there is a severe collision between rolling elements and spacers of crossed tapered roller bearing. Check if the rollers and retainers are in the right size and correct position. Besides, unqualified raceway processing may also lead to this problem.
Before leaving the factory, unless specified otherwise, BRS crossed tapered roller bearings will be filled with the proper amount of grease. Users can install bearings directly after receiving goods. And since cross tapered roller bearings are used in precision environments, they should be greased regularly based on bearings situation and working conditions. Poor lubrication will lead to sliding friction between rolling elements and spacers/raceway so that to cause vibration and abnormal sounds.
If you found there are abnormal sounds during the operation of your bearings, please contact your supplier at the first time, or it may lead to severe consequences and loss. But to be honest, rather than understanding the causes of bearing problems, it is more important to know how to use cross tapered roller bearings correctly.
